Know the Difference

There are a number of words that are pronounced the same, but have different meanings. They may, or may not, be spelled the same. These words are called homophones.

Examples:

The following words have different meanings, but are pronounced and spelled the same.
He gave her a beautiful rose for her birthday.
The kite rose high.

This bear is bare.

The following words have different meanings and spellings but are pronounced the same.
While hiking, we saw a bear.
I’m interested in the bare facts.

Your site visitors want accurate information and they will notice mistakes. That’s why it’s important to catch those mistakes before you publish your content. If you are not sure which form or spelling of a homophone is correct for the content you are writing, check your dictionary.
